Read more about the opera Madama Butterfly

The first revival of this Butterfly staging from 1965 featured the return of Felicia Weathers and Charles Craig, and, in some performances, the British debut of a very attractive young Italian tenor, Franco Bonisolli. He had a lovely lyric voice, and he was a good actor - a near ideal Pinkerton.

The spring season began with a new production of The Marriage of Figaro. There were revivals of Boris Godunov as well as Madam Butterfly . However the most ambitious project, and the one for which the season's programme cover was designed, was Götterdämmerung.
