Read more about the opera Girl of the Golden West

This Scottish tour, commencing Monday 18 February 1963, was unusual in that it consisted of a single week at the Glasgow Empire.

The Girl of the Golden West was performed several times in Scotland in the years after its premiere. There was then a long gap until Sadler's Wells introduced the work to its repertoire and took it on tour.

A single performance of this new production was given at the Glasgow Empire, which lacked an orchestra pit, as a result of which, even in a reduced touring version, the orchestra had a tendency to drown the voices.
