Read more about the opera Pagliacci

The most notable feature of this enjoyable Pagliacci was the introduction of a young Norwegian tenor in the role of Canio. Harald Bjorkoy did inevitably look too young for the part, but he had the right kind of dramatic voice, and was even better suited the following year when he returned for Manrico.

One fun feature of the staging was the fact that the village setting was identical to that of Cav, earlier in the evening, but the costumes were clearly a few decades later in fashion. Thus, in the context of a small community, it was no surprise to see the apparent descendants of Santuzza, Lola, Lucia and Alfio among the village chorus.
