The Aberdeen Press and Journal (29 February) said of Ruth Naylor, "in spite of a wig that did not fit her or the part, sang from start to finish with an ease in the florid music and the more pathetic part of the score that caught the house. Her gestures, unfortunately, do not fit the part as well as her voice.' Of Otakar Kraus, it was said "This fine actor-singer created something that hadn't gone before, and it was so every time he appeared...We must hand it to Walter Susskind for the great part he and his orchestra played in the evening. This, perhaps, was the greatest triumph of the night."
Reviewing the Edinburgh performance on 6 March, the Scotsman praised it. Apparently, Otakar Kraus was indisposed, and at short notice was replaced as the elder Germont by Kingsley Lark.
This wartime Carl Rosa cast is interesting because of the presence of two immigrants from central Europe in Otakar Kraus and Walter Susskind. The conductor would be an important influence in the fifties, including a period with the SNO. The Czech baritone spent many years at Covent Garden, and was also a hugely influential teacher. On a lower level, Martin Quinn's career with Carl Rosa went back to shortly after the first war.

The 1944 visit to Scotland by Carl Rosa consisted of seven weeks, one in Aberdeen first, followed by two in Edinburgh. The Rosa then spent two weeks at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle before moving to Glasgow for four weeks.
Crowded houses were reported, further evidenced by the Wednesday matinees.
