Pagliacci 1920Carl Rosa Opera Company

Read more about the opera Pagliacci

The April performance was the opening night of a two week run by Carl Rosa at the Lyceum. With the husband-and-wife team of Foster and Miranda joining Hughes Macklin, this was a strong Pagliacci cast, with Eva Turner opening proceedings before the interval as Santuzza.

The full programme was as follows:

First week: Mon Cav & Pag; Tue Tales of Hoffmann; Wed Jewels of the Madonna; Thu Tannhäuser; Fri The Miracle, or The Story of Antoine; Sat mat Carmen; Sat eve Merry Wives of Windsor.

Second week: Mon Lohengrin; Tue Mignon; Wed Stella Maris; Thu Faust; Fri Tristan and Isolda; Sat mat Trovatore; Sat eve Bo Girl.

Cast details for 12 April are taken from OperaScotland's copy of the programme for the first two evenings in Edinburgh. The completely different line-ups for 20 and 29 December are from programmes in Aberdeen City Library. The first is duplicated at the V&A Collection in London. The 29 December performance is unusual by this time, in that it is not paired with Cavalleria Rusticana, but with a new work, topical in the post-war era, Pro Patria.

Further tour dates to be confirmed.
