Exciting Programme for Perth Festival

Posted 25 Nov 2012

After this year's relatively unambitious programme (an Onegin English Touring Opera had brought us before, plus a new Barber of Seville) we are delighted to learn of the programme for May 2013, when we are to hear three operas in three evenings.  The first, on Thursday 16 May, is a genuine rarity, Donizetti's The Siege of Calais (L'assedio di Calais) which must be the first professional staging in Scotland. This is set in the time of Edward III of England and is based on the well-known story of the burghers of Calais.

Then there is another rare treat,  Verdi's Simon Boccanegra on Friday 17 May - an opera about family, love and politics in Genoa.  The Festival offering ends with ETO's new production of Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte on Saturday 18 May.
