A review in the Scotsman (10 April) states "...a well-studied and sufficiently appealing Rigoletto that Mr Satariano gave us, and he was well supported by Gwen Catley as Gilda. Her high, softly sustained notes were exquisite, and her performance as a whole was most convincing.

As the Duke, Robert Sydney looked, sang and acted well, particularly in the later parts of the opera. Norman Allin gave abundant weight and grimness to the part of Sparafucile. This was an appropriately blood-curdling performance which gained immediate approval. George David (Monterone) and Betty Sagon (Maddelena) both contributed to the general success of a performance which was skilfully conducted by Vilem Tausky."

Cast details are from a programme for the Wednesday matinee on 30 April, in the Gardiner Collection (Mitchell Library), which also contains information about that evening's Butterfly performance.

Two weeks in Edinburgh, then four Glasgow. Glasgow was always fertile ground for the Carl Rosa company, and they gave considerably more performances there than in the other Scottish cities
