Read more about the opera Cavalleria Rusticana

Carl Rosa Opera, having missed out visiting in 1936, returned to Scotland in spring 1937.

A conventional repertoire was presented for a week at the King's Theatre Edinburgh, followed by two weeks at the King's Theatre Glasgow.

Of this performance, the Scotsman critic (24 March) said 'The theatre was practically full, and the audience showed themselves consistently responsive and appreciative...' the performance was said to be capable and generally interesting.

The veteran Scottish mezzo Bessie Weir, who sang Mamma Lucia, had a long career going back before the First World War, when she sang a range of roles including Delilah with Moody-Manners.
