Read more about the opera Fra Diavolo

The opening night of this Scottish tour featured a further performance of Fra Diavolo, still basking in the glow of success from the autumn visit to Balmoral. The cast was identical to that of the previous season, with one notable exception. Aynsley Cook was a Carl Rosa institution, having worked with the company since its foundation, playing roles such as Leporello, Figaro, Dancaïre, Devilshoof and Sulpice. In Fra Diavolo he had sung Giacomo in 1874 and Beppo in 1893. He died in Liverpool in February.
