Died Berlin, 16 May 2016.

German costume designer.

Moidele Bickel was a versatile designer, working not just in theatre and opera but also in television and cinema. However it is probable that she is remembered most importantly for the years she spent in Berlin from 1970 to 1992, collaborating particularly with director Peter Stein at the Schaubühne.

She enjoyed an international career, working at Salzburg, Vienna, Milan and Paris as well as in the USA. Directors with whom she collaborated included Patrice Chéreau, Luc Bondy and Robert Wilson.

Examples of her work seen at the Edinburgh Festival include the Stein staging of Falstaff and the Bondy productions of Don Carlos and The Turn of the Screw.
