Emilie Deméric-Lablache Suggest updates

Emilie De Méric.

Born Paris, 6 October 1830.

Died after 1900.

French contralto.

Madame Deméric-Lablache married Nicolas Lablache, son of the great Italian bass, and was the mother of the rather better-known contralto Louise Lablache. The two contraltos performed a similar repertoire. Emilie was herself the child of the French soprano Joséphine de Méric (1801-1877), who had married the English impresatio Joseph Glossop in 1827 (though the marriage is believed to have been bigamous on his part).
