Born Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 10 January 1950.

American baritone.

Donnie Ray Albert studied at the Louisiana State University and Southern Methodist University.  His debut in 1975 was with Houston Grand Opera (Scott Joplin's Treemonisha), followed by Jake Wallace (Fanciulla del West).

In 1976 he sang Porgy in Houston and on Broadway as well as recording the work.

Later appearances include:

1978 New York City Opera, Washington National Opera;  1979 Chicago;  1980 Baltimore, Cincinatti, Dallas, Fort Worth, New Orleans, Portland, Tulsa;

1981 Vancouver;  1982 Boston, Mexico City; 1984 San Francisco, Florence (Porgy); 1986 Toronto;

1988 European Tour (Porgy)

1996 Cologne (Dutchman); Milan La Scala (Hidraot Armide, Nabucco).

Other parts in his repertoire included Beethoven (Don Fernando);  Rossini (Don Basilio);  Verdi (Don Carlo Ernani,  Monterone,  Ferrando,  Amonasro,  Iago);  Gounod (Valentin);  Musorgsky (Varlaam);   Bizet (Escamillo);   Puccini (Jack Rance);   Strauss (Jokanaan);   Weill (Trinity Moses);   Louis Gruenberg  (Title Role Emperor Jones).
