Nicholas Sharratt studied Commerce at Birmingham University. With a Peter Moores Foundation Scholarship he then trained at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the National Opera  Studio.

His operatic engagements include appearances at Bampton (Ernesto in Haydn's La vera costanza); Grange Park (Nemorino); ETO (Ernesto, Almaviva, Tamino, Flute, Paris King Priam, Fernando The Wild Man of the West Indies); Opera North (Lucano, Camille, Lamplighter in Weinberg's The Portrait, Pedrillo, 1st Shepherd/Spirit Orfeo, Flute, Soppy Hat in Dove's Swanhunter); and Independent Opera (Dominic in Maconchy's The Sofa). He has also performed with Welsh National (John in  Richard Ayres' Peter Pan); at Glyndebourne (Rudolph Euryanthe, 1st Prisoner Fidelio); Garsington (Brighella, Albazar Il turco in Italia) and with the Early Opera Company (Nerone). He created Adam in Dove's The Walk from the Garden (Salisbury 2012).

Appearances abroad include festivals in France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Estonia, Israel and Japan. At Bregenz he sang Lippmann in Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing; in Tokyo Ferrando in Così fan tutte; and in Tel Aviv Tamino.

He first worked in Scotland with ETO as Ernesto, then Almaviva. His debut with Scottish Opera was as Offenbach's Orpheus, and he created the role of Sam in MacRae's Ghost Patrol (Edinburgh 2012). He later created Richard in a second MacRae work, The Devil Inside (2016), repeating the part with Music Theatre Wales and in Toronto. Other roles with Scottish Opera include Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance (2013), Remendado (2015) and Nanki-Poo in The Mikado (2016). He also toured widely in the company's SensoryO production for toddlers.
