Scottish baritone

David Stephenson trained as an electronic and electrical engineer.  He later studied at the Royal College of Music in London.

From the beginning he worked regularly at Haddo House. Early appearances with Scottish Opera include Marquis d'Obigny, Guglielmo, Papageno and Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos). More recently he has sung Germont and Macbeth.

He has appeared at Welsh National Opera (Escamillo, Sharpless, Papageno, Silvio), English National Opera (Marullo), Buxton Festival (Simone in Mozart's La finta semplice and Roland in Schubert's Fierrabras), and Opera Ireland (Alidoro, Speaker, Angelotti). Roles with Carl Rosa include the Mikado, Shadbolt in Yeomen of the Guard, Willis in Iolanthe and Capt Corcoran in HMS Pinafore, as well as Falke in Die Fledermaus.

He has worked at the Wexford Festival, as well as with Opera Holland Park. In addition to working with Raymond Gubbay (Escamillo, Silvio), he has appeared many times with Diva Opera (Guglielmo, Sharpless, Enrico Ashton, Almaviva, Marcello, Falke, Danilo, Dandini, Onegin and Figaro.

Appearances on the continent include Ariodate in Xerxes at Halle and Count Robinson in Il matrimonio segreto at Les Azuriales, in addition to Escamillo at the Festival de Perelada in Spain and at Opera Zuid.
