Russian soprano.

Galina Simkina began her musical studies in 1982 at the Gnessin Music School with Elena Troshinskoy.  Later she took vocal studies at the same school with Professor Saru Doluchanovov.

In 1986 she joined the ensemble of the Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow, and in 1987 won first prize in both the international vocal competition in Tokyo and in the Lenin Competition.

Her international career was launched with her Western debut in 1990 at the Antwerp Opera as Tatyana in Eugene Onegin. She was swiftly invited to return for Magda in Puccini's La Rondine.  Other operatic roles in her repertoire included Mimì, Nedda and Tchaikovsky's Iolanta.
