Read more about the opera Golden Web

After a distinctly complicated birth, the last opera of Goring Thomas was toured. While the musical aspects of the comedy were admired, the text, plot and faults of structure were still criticised, in spite of all the adjustments since the premiere. Reaction to The Golden Web did not equal the success of its two predecessors, and the opera has never been revived.

Little can be extracted from the short review in the Glasgow Evening Post (1 May) other than confirmation of the singers in the main roles. "The opera was, as on the previous occasion, prettily set.... The other parts were ably filled, and the audience awarded the performers frequent applause."
