Read more about the opera Lohengrin

Philip Brozel was a familiar name to Wagner fans, as he sang regularly with the Carl Rosa company in the nineties.  Since leaving them he had been to New York, singing Tannhäuser at the Met.  He had also appeared at Bayreuth.  He spent one season with Moody-Manners, and the company's best singers, with the possible exception of Charles Manners himself, were on stage with him.  He did rejoin the company in 1908, after spending a few more years on the continent.

The 1902 Scottish visit by Moody-Manners was distinctly brief, with a single Edinburgh week in the spring and a Glasgow week in the autumn.
