Symphony no9 'Choral' 1992Royal Scottish Orchestra

The brief period after the SNO was awarded its Royal charter saw the word National being dropped from the title in order to retain a simple three-letter format. However the change was unpopular in some quarters, and after a few months - essentially one winter season and an Edinburgh Festival - the word was reinstated.

This coincided with the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the awarding of Dundee's charter as a Royal Burgh. One useful element of this saw the usual winter season of the 'RSO' gaining four extra concerts, including this one which saw the orchestra's chorus coming through - an event definitely to be celebrated.

The music used to begin the evening's programme was certainly unusual - a chance to re-assess three pieces by John Maxwell Geddes - Lacuna, Ombre and Voyager.

Dates of further performances in Glasgow and Edinburgh to be confirmed.
