Requiem in D minor, K626 1994Dundee Choral Union

Read more about the opera Requiem, K626

This Dundee Choral Union concert began with Vivaldi's popular Gloria, with the male soloists only putting in an appearance after the interval.

The most notable feature of the evening was the debut of the young mezzo Sarah Connolly. It is always interesting when a young singer encounters the vast spaces of the Caird Hall for the first time. Sometimes they visibly freeze and the voice fails to project. This time Connolly marched on to the platform looking relaxed, confident and happy - and quickly made a very positive impression in both works. It is just sad that she has not returned in the subsequent 25 years - far too busy elsewhere.
