At the AGM of Dundee Amateur Choral Union on 01 September 1958, a decision was taken to remove the word 'Amateur' from the choir's title. This was, then, the first concert under the new name. It was also the first local performance of Walton's gloriously dramatic cantata.

Perhaps an even more notable feature of this event is the fact that the baritone soloist was Dennis Noble, a great British baritone, who had sung at the first performance of the work in 1931.

The concert kicked off with Verdi's Te Deum, also being heard for the first time in Dundee, and the Brahms' more familiar Song of Destiny.
