The reviewer for the Glasgow Herald (27 March) wrote:-

'In last night's performance, Mr E C Hedmondt and Madame Ella Russell, who were 'specially engaged', took the parts of Lohengrin and Elsa respectively.   Both artists were in capital voice, and in the first and third acts received many favourable demonstrations from the audience.   Mr Hedmondt is singing much better than when he was here last, and the wreath which was handed to him during the evening was not undeserved.

'Mr William Dever's Frederic was in many ways excellent, but in the first act especially he had far too many false notes.   Miss Marie Alexander did not quite suit the part of Ortrud, but she sang and acted vigorously; the best part of her voice is at the top.   Mr Alexander Bevan as the King, and Mr Dillon Shallard as the Herald also contributed their share to the success of the performance."
