"Manrico's real, aristocratic origins rather than the bold campaigner and ardent lover were reflected in Walter Midgley's rather aloof manner and also in his voice.  For his was aristocratic singing, not always appropriate but beautifully poised and mellow-toned."

''Krystyna Granowska displayed a powerful but expressive voice with some brilliant high notes in building up a convincing Leonora, and a potent study of the fierce, vengeful, and finally distracted Azucena was given by Julia Buttrell.'

''John Faassen as the Count di Luna hardly matched up to the standards of the other principals."

Information is taken from a short review in the Glasgow Herald (17 June) and a programme from Glasgow Theatre Royal archived in the National Library of Scotland.
