Force of Destiny 1969Sadler's Wells Opera

Read more about the opera Forza del Destino

A welcome addition to the Sadler’s Wells touring repertoire, this was at the time a bit of a rarity, not performed professionally in Scotland since the early days of the Edinburgh Festival. The production by Colin Graham had opened in December 1968.

The company's previous visit to Glasgow in Autumn of 1968 had featured a repertoire of only five works and seems rather lightweight. This time there were eight, with some relative rareties. Edinburgh and Aberdeen, with one week apiece, saw The Magic Flute, Offenbach's Bluebeard, The Force of Destiny and The Rake's Progress. Glasgow, with a three week visit, saw all of the above, plus Count Ory, Ariadne on Naxos, Madam Butterfly and Patience.
