Dame Felicity Lott was renowned throughout her career as an ideal interpreter of French repertoire, most notably Poulenc. When she sang opera so rarely in Scotland it was an excellent idea to bring her north to sing this attractive little melodrama which is infrequently performed.

The conductor originally scheduled was the RSNO's Principal Conductor, Walter Weller. Illness prevented him from appearing, and his replacement revealed all the right instincts.

The work does not provide a full evening's entertainment, and it seems that every revival is coupled with different companions. In this case, the concert began with Mozart - the overture to Figaro and the Symphony no39 (in E flat, K543), which worked as well as anything.
