The Carl Rosa company had also brought Bohème to Scotland in 1944. However Tyrone Guthrie's detailed and subtle staging for Sadler's Wells was highly-praised in the press. Seven performances does still seem a lot, even spread over four weeks.

The most intriguing feature here is the name of the conductor. Boyd Neel had his own chamber orchestra, and was an early associate of Benjamin Britten. He is not usually associated with Puccini.

These abbreviated cast details are from reviews in the Herald (2 November) and Scotsman (15 November).
