Così fan tutte 1934Chanticleer Opera Company

Read more about the opera Così fan tutte

Played before an enthusiastic audience of five hundred, this was the Scottish premiere of one of Mozart's greatest operas. The accompaniment was arranged for two pianos. There was a chorus of four, and the performance was abridged. With these forces, it sounds very like performances of the work that Scottish Opera have sent on small-scale tours in recent years. Even then, it was clearly a suitable work for well-schooled students to cut their teeth on.

Cast details are taken from the Scotsman review, with details of the pianists and producers from other newspapers, including Bristol, where the company had toured a couple of months earlier. Some of the singers changed during the tour.

Around this time, the first performance in Scotland of Mozart's Idomeneo also took place - see details here.
