Cenerentola 1960Sadler's Wells Opera

Read more about the opera Cenerentola

Cinderella was the first of a batch of five Rossini operas that Sadler's Wells would mount through the sixties. It opened at Sadler's Wells Theatre on 29 October 1959, and would visit Scotland during five tours over the coming years. It was only after the production wore out (alone of these Rossini stagings it did not transfer to the Coliseum) that Scottish Opera mounted its own production of the work for Christmas 1969 - with Patricia Kern returning in the title role.

The 1960 spring tour, over three weeks in March, visited Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow, with a repertoire including Cinderella, Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, La bohème and Tannhäuser.

Details of Cinderella cast for 1 March are from a programme in Edinburgh City Library.
