This revival contains some interesting cast features, particularly Catherine Wilson in the title role. For most of her career she sang soprano roles, but early on she was a mezzo - though even so this part does lie very low. She did not sing it for long. Alexander Young had a lovely lyric tenor and a sly sense of humour, which would be shown even better when he sang Count Ory in 1963. Heather Begg was very tall, with excellent comic timing, and must have been delightfully incongruous as Tisbe, contrasted with the diminutive Iris Kells as her sister.

Cast details from a programme in Edinburgh City Library, confirmed by one in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow.
