Opera Bohemia's staging of Puccini's famous work took the road again.

This tried and tested production was given three times on the Fringe; on 24 August your reviewer heard a fine performance. Melanie Gowie gave a fine performance, leading a strong cast of young singers. In an opera where it can be hard to sympathise with the principal characters, the audience was drawn in to the drama. Douglas Nairne as Sharpless conveyed well the powerlessness of his position.

There was a good sized audience of well over a hundred in the attractive setting of St Andrews and St George's West in George Street.

The accompaniment is for piano (Geoffrey Tanti in May; Gordon Cree in Aug & Sep) and violin (Feargus Hetherington in May & Sep; Gongbo Jiang in Aug).
