This musical entertainment by Henry Bishop was clearly a popular success at this time. Of the twelve evenings of Mary Ann Paton's 1824 Edinburgh season, at least four of them sent the audience home with this as their last item. It followed after three contrasted main works in The Barber of Seville, The Lord of the Manor, and Love in a Village.
