Albert Herring 1969Scottish Opera

Read more about the opera Albert Herring

The main event for Scottish Opera in the spring of 1969 was the gargantuan production of The Trojans. The season also included a revival of the wonderful Così fan tutte and further performances of The Gondoliers and Full Circle.

Albert Herring had already represented the company on its first foreign trip to Florence the previous May, and here it was again, swiftly revived for a three-stop German tour to Hanover, Dortmund and Augsburg. The latter was the important link here - Peter Ebert had recently been appointed as Generalintendant at Augsburg, his staging of The Trojans was a co-production with that theatre, and the designers of The Trojans and next season's Fidelio were based there. The Dortmund building was new, having only been completed in 1966.

Edinburgh missed out on Herring in May but had two showings in December between the performances of the new Cenerentola.
