Nearly two years after its first run, The Haddo society brought back Amahl. This time they stayed at home in the Haddo Hall, and a more elaborate setting was required when the ecclesiastical background was no longer available. Also, the entertainment was lengthened, with the addition of a Chrismas play written by director Charles Barron. Titled Roses of Christmas, this provided a multitude of short acting roles for the members

Once again the Menotti score was reduced for two pianos, with Donald Hawksworth joined by Robert Howie. Among the adults on stage the only cast change was in the role of Melchior. Of course, a new treble had to be found to take on the title role.
