Acis and Galatea 2014Dunedin Consort

Read more about the opera Acis and Galatea

The 2014 Lammermuir Festival closed with a performance by the Edinburgh-based Dunedin Consort of Handel's beautiful pastoral entertainment Acis and Galatea. Before that, they gave an additional performance of the piece in the superbly intimate and atmospheric St John's Kirk in Perth.

The original version has a special sense of immediacy. It was prepared in 1718 for performance at Handel's friend the Duke of Chandos' country home, Cannons, located in the charming village of Edgware. This attractiveness was well brought out in the Consort's recording made in 2008, and three of those soloists re-assembled, with the addition of Joanne Lunn and Thomas Walker.
