This was the first performance in Britain of Falla's final unfinished scenic cantata, in a completion by Ernesto Halftter. First performed in Barcelona the previous year, then adjusted for Ls Scala in June 1962, it was still an example of work-in-progress, though fascinating. For its second Festival outing a quarter-century on, Falla's music would be given on its own.
