Read more about the opera Iolanthe

The autumn 1918 tour of the D'Oyly Carte company included a four-week trip north of the central belt, with an identical programme in Aberdeen followed by Dundee. Iolanthe had the Monday evening and the Saturday matinee in the first week.

The highly-regarded young Australian tenor Edward McKeown had been on good form in Aberdeen and for the first two nights in Dundee. Thereafter he was one of the company who fell a victim to the prevailing influenza epidemic, and withdrew. Who sang Tolloller at the final matinee is to be established.

Edinburgh and Glasgow performances to be established.

The repertoire for the two visits to Aberdeen and Dundee was as follows:

First week: Mon Iolanthe; Tue Yeomen; Wed Gondoliers; Thu Trial by Jury & HMS Pinafore; Fri Princess Ida; Sat mat Iolanthe; Sat eve Mikado.

Second week: Mon Mikado; Tue Patience; Wed Trial by Jury & Sorcerer; Thu Mikado; Fri Yeomen; Sat mat Pieates; Sat eve Gondoliers.

This cast is as reported in the Dundee Advertiser and Dundee Courier & Argus, for the Monday 21 October.
