1887 seems to be the year of the first Scottish tour by Mr J W Turner's English Opera Company. Turner himself had spent several years as a principal tenor employed by Carl Rosa, and ran a company for the most part on a smaller scale. His repertoire concentrated on the British works of Balfe, Wallace, Benedict and Macfarren, along with continental works such as Martha, Fra Diavolo and Faust. Later he introduced larger-scale pieces, including Il trovatore and Tannhäuser, for which it was necessary to bring in a tenor with a more powerful voice than his own.
This tour encompassed the Scottish cities, opening in Aberdeen, before continuing to Dundee and Glasgow. Any visit to Edinburgh before or after is to be confirmed.

Dundee (w/c Oct 31): Mon Maritana; Tue Bohemian Girl; Wed Fra Diavolo; Thu Bohemian Girl; Fri Lily of Killarney; Sat Fra Diavolo.
Glasgow (w/c Nov 7): Mon Bohemian Girl; Tue Lily of Killarney; Wed Fra Diavolo; Thu Bohemian Girl; Fri Faust; Sat Maritana.
