Traviata 1970Scottish Opera for All

Read more about the opera Traviata

This excellent Opera For All staging was touring in repertoire with Don Pasquale and Martha, directed and designed by the same hands.

The spring itinerary for Traviata was as follows: 10 Jan (Dumbarton), 14 & 17 Jan (Glasgow), 19 Jan (Anstruther), 31 Jan (Saltburn), 5 Feb (Kendal), 11 Feb (Oswaldwistle), 18 Feb (Darwen), 21 Feb (Harrogate), 25 Feb (Wigan), 28 Feb (Saddleworth), 5 Mar Stourbridge), 7 Mar (Redditch), 13 Mar (Scunthorpe), 16 Mar (Mansfield), 2 & 6 Jun (Dundee).

Dundee's Whitehall Theatre had recently been renovated by the local council as a theatre suitable for medium-scale productions, though was not big enough for the full-scale opera companies that had visited the old Gaumont with such success up to 1961. Built in 1928, as the Alhambra, it had quickly become a cinema (the State), and was located in a run down part of the town, surrounded by old mills. This area was in the process of being converted into a modern University campus.

The autumn revival included the following: 19 Oct (Duns), 23 Oct (Perth), 28 Oct (Arbroath), 30 Oct (Largs).
