Nabucco 2007Edinburgh Grand Opera

Read more about the opera Nabucco

For its ambitious production of Nabucco in the vast spaces of the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh Grand assembled the essential large chorus and double cast the major roles. The production banished any attempt at suggestions of middle eastern antiquity, and planted the story firmly in the present, with the rivalries at government and media mogul level. Inevitably it came up as a bit soapy, with elements of Dallas and Dynasty as well as more factually-based ideas. Great fun. The performance was conducted with appropriate vigour by Richard Lewis, with an excellent orchestra and chorus.
