The British premiere of this piece had been in French, but it was first performed by the Carl Rosa only a few weeks before the Scottish tour, at Bristol on 8 October 1887.

It appears likely that the work was included in the Carl Rosa repertoire at the suggestion of Marie Roze, since she had studied the title role with the composer before his death, and the nature of the part was particularly suited to her talents. The cast comes from the programme in the Royalty Theatre file in Glasgow's Mitchell Library, but there is no indication whether the conductor was Eugène Goossens I or Claude Jacquinot - for enlightenment it is necessary to refer to the advert in the Glasgow Herald.
