Welsh bass.

Professionally, he generally used the name Frangcon Davies and was a notable bass, especially in concert, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, He sang in the premiere of Elgar's oratorio The Apostles (Birmingham 1903).

His daughter Gwen (1891-1992) was an excellent, versatile and long-lived actress. After her debut in 1911 she toured in the lead role of the musical comedy The Arcadians in 1915, and a decade later could be seen as Ophelia to John Gielgud's first Hamlet. She was also in his famous production of Richard of Bordeaux (1934) and his Lady Macbeth (1942). She was created DBE in 1991.
