Rhys Alun Thomas was born and raised in the valleys of Conwy, North Wales. Studying in Cardiff under Janet Price at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, he won the Dolan Evans memorial prize for his performance of a duet from an Oratorio alongside Katrina Nimmo. He continued his studies in Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Early roles include Sarastro The Magic Flute, Swede/Crony Paul Bunyan and Rhadymanthus Orpheus in the Underworld.  He first appeared in Scotland with Magnetic Opera (Don Basilio The Barber of Seville).

Choral repertoire includes Bach's Magnificat, Handel's Messiah, Dvorák's Mass in D and the Verdi Requiem.
