American tenor.

Edward Sooter graduated in 1961 from the Friends University, Wichita, Kansas, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. In 1960 he was a Metropolitan Opera Audition finalist in New York and four years later he completed a degree in 'Master of Music in Voice'.

From 1964 to 1966 he was based in Hamburg, studying with Helmut Melchert, and he made his debut in 1966 as Florestan Fidelio.  He went on to appear at all the major German houses.  He also sang in France, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark.

His debut with the Metropolitan Opera was in Tannhäuser in Detroit during the 1979 tour. He later sang Siegmund in the Ring cycles mounted at Seattle.
