Emma Bell studied in London at the Royal Academy of Music.  She is a winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award.

Operatic appearances in Britain include the Royal Opera (Elisabeth Tannhäuser,  Eva Die Meistersinger, Madame Lidoine Dialogues des Carmélites); Hallé (Freia Das Rheingold); Edinburgh Festival (Elettra Idomeneo);  Scottish Opera (Matilde Silvano); Glyndebourne (Fox Cunning Little Vixen, Miss Jessel Turn of the Screw, title role Vanessa); Welsh National Opera (Elsa Lohengrin); ENO (Leonore Fidelio).

She has appeared in many of the leading German opera houses, including Munich (Eva), Hamburg (Madame Lidoine, Elsa); Cologne (Leonore,  Arabella); Berlin Deutsche Oper (Elisabeth/Venus Tannhäuser); Berlin Staatsoper (Governess Turn of the Screw).

She has also worked at Milan La Scala (Anne Trulove The Rake's Progress, Elettra, Donna Elvira);   Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Leonore); Madrid Teatro Real (Governess, Elettra); Zurich (Eva); Vienna Theater an der Wien (Leonore).

In the United States, appearances include New York Met (Countess Almaviva, Donna Elvira); Dallas (Governess).
