American soprano.

Gladys Kuchta was a member of the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, from 1958 until her retirement in 1975, her farewell performance being as Isolde.  During an international career as a dramatic soprano she also appeared at Bayreuth and Vienna, San Francisco and the New York Met, as well as Covent Garden and the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires.

Her repertoire included works by Mozart (Elettra);  Beethoven (Leonore);  Wagner (Senta, Elsa, Isolde, Brünnhilde);  Verdi (Abigaille, Lady Macbeth, Amelia Ballo in maschera,  Aïda);  Offenbach (Giulietta);  Strauss (Chrysothemis, Elektra, Dyer's Wife); Puccini (Turandot);  Berg (Marie);  Hindemith (Ursula Mathis der Maler).

Her Edinburgh Festival appearance was as a guest with the Hamburg State Opera.
