Opera Scotland

Would you like to help us?

Posted 8 Dec 2016

OperaScotland has been looking back over a year of steady growth. All the team have been pleased by the growing interest in our work, so much so that we want to push on over the next year and ‘scale up’ if we possibly can.

But if we are to do this we need help. We want to keep the website as authoritative as possible, and at the same time we want to ensure it stays free of charge to users. If you have some free time available on a regular basis, perhaps you would like to volunteer some help? A few hours might be enough.

We don't have fixed ideas about the profile of the 'perfect' volunteer. Apart from being interested in opera, he/she would likely enjoy working in libraries, and/or be fairly comfortable working at home over the web. You may have a interest in particular singers, composers or companies you have heard.

Perhaps you have some programmes, and you are able and willing to scan mini biographies of singers mentioned on the OperaScotland website. It may be that you live near one of the major libraries in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Or perhaps you are based in a smaller town where performances took place.

We are continuing to build up an archive of programmes, posters and ephemera regarding opera performances in Scotland and can offer a good home for them. Do you, your friends or relatives have vintage programmes or photographs that are not yet on the OperaScotland website? We would be happy to copy and return them, or if you are willing to scan them yourselves we would welcome copies.

Donations too are welcome.

If you feel you have something to offer, please get in touch with iain@operascotland.org in the first instance.
