Street Scene spectacular at RCS

A sizzling slice of 1940s New York life comes to Glasgow in one of the most ambitious productions ever staged by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. There are only four performances.

 Blurring the boundaries between musical theatre and opera, Kurt Weill’s Street Scene brings together a show-stopping set, an infectious score and a cast of almost 60 from across the disciplines, including young performers from the Junior Conservatoire.

Perth Festival of the Arts

To open Perth Festival of the Arts, perhaps the greatest opera of all, Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, is being given in an acclaimed new production. Newcomers could hardly have a better introduction to one of the masterpieces of opera - to be sung in English with surtitles.

Scottish Opera launches new season

Scottish Opera has unveiled its 2018/19 Season. Highlights include a world premiere, and two new productions (one a co-production with Germany’s Theater Magdeburg).

Also on the appetising menu are two revivals, a new production of Orfeo and Euridice by Scottish Opera Young Company, and two Scottish premieres in the Opera in Concert series. Locations will include appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Lammermuir Festival, as well as in Paris, London and New York.

Edinburgh International Festival Fare

This year's operatic offering at the International Festival consists of three fully staged productions and two concert performances.

There are two by Rossini - Barber of Seville (pictured) presented by Théâtre des Champs-Elysées,  and Cenerentola by the Opéra de Lyon.

In addition, John Gay's Beggar's Opera is to be performed by the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, from Paris, who have a residency at the Festival. William Christie leads the musical side of this multinational coproduction.
