Edinburgh International Festival Fare

This year's operatic offering at the International Festival consists of three fully staged productions and two concert performances.

There are two by Rossini - Barber of Seville (pictured) presented by Théâtre des Champs-Elysées,  and Cenerentola by the Opéra de Lyon.

In addition, John Gay's Beggar's Opera is to be performed by the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, from Paris, who have a residency at the Festival. William Christie leads the musical side of this multinational coproduction.

Edinburgh Studio Opera celebrate fifty years

Join Edinburgh Studio Opera to celebrate their fifty years of opera as they present two masterpieces in a contrasting double bill. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas based on Virgil's tragic love affair is partnered with Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, a hilarious comic farce rooted in a story from Dante's Inferno.

The high quality student cast, 27-strong, will be performing in traverse, using the length of the stage at Assembly Roxy to create dynamic and fluid stagings of these short operas.

Opera Bohemia to perform Falstaff

Opera Bohemia are poised to make further progress as Scotland's young touring company, following their success in 2017 taking Bizet's Pearl Fishers round Scotland.

New Year, fresh programme at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

The new season gets off to an interesting start. The RCS is offering two rarities in a double bill of Holst's Savitri and Viktor Ullmann's The Emperor of Atlantis.
